Marion Health now offers Bariatric Surgery

Marion Health is pleased to announce the launch of bariatric surgery, a comprehensive weight loss service line. The new service offers an effective and proven surgical solution for weight loss in obese patients. The bariatric surgery team is led by Nitin Sharma, MD, FACS, FASMBS, an experienced bariatric surgeon.

Following medical school at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center and Brookdale University Hospital in New York City, Dr. Sharma completed a fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at the Princeton University Hospital, in Princeton, NJ. During this fellowship he was trained both with the state-of-the-art Davinci robot and advanced laparoscopic techniques in bariatric surgery.

Marion Health now offers two different surgical procedures:

• Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (sleeve gastrectomy)
• Gastric Bypass

All bariatric surgery procedures performed at Marion Health use a laparoscopic technique for a less invasive surgery and a more expedited recovery process. We follow a standard multidisciplinary evaluation of our bariatric surgery patients. Our bariatric team includes a surgeon, dietician, physician, cardiologist, pulmonologist, and a psychologist or psychiatrist. Our bariatric team is committed to the long-term success of our patients.
