Marion General Hospital Embarks on Infrastructure Improvements

Marion Health is pleased to announce the first phase of a three-year, multi-million dollar, electrical infrastructure upgrade.

After a thorough review and prioritization of the organization’s master facility plan, the Marion Health Board of Directors approved the substantial investment in the upgrade. The four-story expansion on the north side of the main building will be constructed to house the additional infrastructure.

This high impact, far reaching project will provide the Marion Health campus, medical staff, employees, patients, visitors, and the community with a greater degree of assurance the modern day technology and best-practices within the hospital will continue at the superior level. Most notably, the project will ensure that during times of emergency, the hospital will remain a solid, accessible refuge, serving a critical community need 24/7, 365 days a year.

Marion Health is proud to have served our patients and their families from the same location for over 100 years. MGH will continue the tradition of closely partnering with local, regional, and statewide businesses to assist in the completion of this major facility improvement.

After consultation and coordination with Cornerstone and Governmental Officials, and in preparation for the expansion project, for the safety and security of the community beginning Wednesday, August 24, Jeffras Avenue will be closed east of Hill Street to west of Wabash Avenue at the Marion Health ambulance bay area. Jeffras Avenue traffic will be redirected to Spencer Avenue via D Street.

The hospital understands there will be certain inconveniences associated with this project and requests your patience during construction and look forward to the completion of this facility enhancement which will provide improved safety and security to our healthcare community.

The anticipated completion date for this initial phase and the reopening of Jeffras Avenue is summer of 2017.
