Oncology Nurses Receive Professional Recertification
Marion Health's Melinda Himelick, R.N., OCN, Jan Miller,
R.N., OCN, and Marilyn Pearcy, R.N., OCN, administrative director, medical
oncology,
(left to right above) were recently granted recertification in oncology nursing. Oncology certification
is important because cancer care changes daily and nurses need to remain
updated on a variety of topics, including new treatments, care management,
and reimbursement issues.
All eligible Marion Health medical oncology nurses are certified. To become eligible,
nurses must have a minimum of 1,000 hours in oncology nursing practice
within 30 months prior to application. Eight out of 10 MGH medical oncology
nurses are certified. They are required to be recertified every four years
and complete a minimum of 60 hours of continued oncology education.
