Emergency Nurses Earn National Certification
Marion Health is pleased to announce three of its emergency department nurses have earned a nationally recognized credential in emergency nursing. Cindy Canida-Woodward, RN, MS, Julie Fowler, RN, and Cathy Slusser, RN, MS, recently passed the Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) examination administered by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing.
“Achieving certification in a specific area allows the RN to demonstrate expertise in their field,” states Bernadine Wallace, RN, MSN, Chief Nursing Officer. “These are dedicated, experienced nurses who have gone above and beyond to provide the safest and best care to their patients, and I commend them for their efforts – They are the reason we are a Magnet® Hospital.”
The CEN credential represents a commitment of the individual nurse to provide quality state-of-the-art emergency care. Emergency nursing is unique because it incorporates a wide spectrum of patient care which requires highly specialized skills and extensive knowledge, as well as the unique ability to care for all ages of patients who have illnesses or injuries ranging from very minor to critical. T
he CEN examination evaluates the nurse’s knowledge in the areas of clinical pathophysiology, patient care management, professional issues, environment, toxicology, shock, trauma and medical emergency care.
