Nurse Receives Wound Care Certification
Mindy Middlesworth, R.N., Wound Ostomy Clinic, is now Wound Care Certified (WCC). The 5-year Marion Health employee is the first nurse in that department to complete the certification and pass the exam offered by the National Alliance of Wound Care.
A Wound Care Certified practitioner is a healthcare professional who has made a choice to advance their knowledge in wound care. This is demonstrated by their desire to become certified, attended extensive wound care training and pass the certification examination. This knowledge base is a voluntary personal desire to deliver the highest quality of wound care available in the United States.
A Wound Care Certified nurse performs many functions related to skin and wound care management including: Review of wound treatments for effectiveness; assessment of potential for healing; perform risk assessment for potential skin problems; review environmental and nutritional factors that may impede healing of wounds; recommend treatments and supportive equipment to improve wound healing; provide education regarding skin and wound care management to patients and healthcare workers; assist in wound care product selection based on individual need, cost, and reimbursement and work with other members of the healthcare team in the planning of overall care to promote healing.
Middlesworth has worked full-time at the Wound Ostomy Clinic for one year. She and her husband, Trent, have two children, Olivia and Hannah; they reside in Swayzee, IN.
