MGH Now Most Wired Hospital

Marion Health has been named one of the Most Wired hospital and health systems in the nation for the fifth time. As a testament to its investment in information technology, Marion Health won the national award in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005 and has repeated the prestigious designation once again in 2009.

Hospitals & Health Networks (H&HN) magazine, the journal of the American Hospital Association (AHA), conducts the voluntary Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study each year to name the Most Wired hospitals and health systems. The eleventh annual survey was conducted by H&HN in cooperation with McKesson Corporation and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

The survey measures the nation’s hospitals on their use of information technologies for patient safety and quality, customer service, business process improvement, workforce management and disaster readiness.

“We are honored to once again be named as a Most Wired hospital,” states Emmanuel Ndow, chief information officer. “The recognition validates our ability to re-engineer our processes to the highest standards and improve our patient care through strategic use of technology.”

Information technology will continue to play a large role in the delivery of healthcare in the future. “As the health reform debate continues, it’s clear that IT will play an even more important role in the health system of tomorrow,” says Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the AHA.

“Most Wired hospitals help illustrate IT in action – improving efficiency, quality and safety of care while helping control costs.” Marion Health is one of only five hospitals in Indiana to receive the honor.
