Labs Receive CAP Accreditation
Based on the results of a recent on-site survey, Marion Health’s main lab and the stat lab at Marion Health Medical Oncology were accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the world’s largest association composed exclusively of pathologists, with nearly 16,000 members.
Widely considered the leader in laboratory quality assurance, CAP is an advocate for high quality and cost-effective medical care. Marion Health joins more than 6,000 accredited labs nationwide.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the lab’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. Cap inspectors also examine the entire lab staff’s qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record and overall management of the lab. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for lab patients.
“The peer group which inspected us this year was unique as the nine member team included four doctors, says Connie Woods, interim administrative director of lab. “The inspection was both intense and very thorough.” Marion Health’s accreditation is for two years.
